MIXED CONVECTION WITHIN VERTICAL PARALLEL PLATES: HYBRID SOLUTION BY INTEGRAL TRANSFORMS

Abstract

The integral transform method is employed in the hybrid numerical-analytical solution of laminar mixed convection between vertical parallel plates subjected to prescribed wall temperatures. The boundary layer equations, rewritten in the stream-function-only formulation, are adopted in the problem modeling. The automatic global error control feature of this approach is utilized in establishing a set of benchmark results for this classical test case in coupled heat and fluid flow phenomena. Critical comparisons with previously reported results are then performed, within a wide range of the governing parameters, and a physical interpretation of the different cases analyzed is provided.
