Abstract
Mixed convection heat transfer in a ventilated cavity subjected to a uniform heat flux from the side is studied numerically using the Navier-Stokes equations with the Boussinesq approximation. Flow fields, temperature fields, and heat transfer rates are examined for different values of Rayleigh and Reynolds numbers. The proposed model is solved for wide ranges of these parameters: 103 ≤ Ra ≤ 5 × 106 and 5 ≤ Re ≤ 5000. The relative height of the openings is kept constant (B = h′ / H′ = 1/4). The effect of these parameters on heat transfer and fluid flow will be examined, and useful correlations are proposed by considering air as a working fluid (Pr = 0.72).
