An Examination of Four Differencing Schemes for Some Elliptic-Type Convection Equations

Abstract

The work presented here is a comparative study of four differencing schemes for some elliptic-type equations involving fluid flow and heat transfer. The differencing schemes under consideration are the central-difference, upwind-difference, exponential-difference, and Allen-Southwell schemes. Two test problems that have been studied recently are solved to provide a direct comparison of the four schemes. The Allen-Southwell scheme is shown to be superior to the others in both test problems.
