A PARTIALLY PARABOLIC CALCULATION PROCEDURE FOR DUCT FLOWS IN IRREGULAR GEOMETRIES. PART I: FORMULATION

Abstract

A control volume-based, finite-element method is used in conjunction with equal-order interpolation for pressure and velocity for the calculation of fluid flow in ducts of arbitrary cross section. The effect of downstream pressure variations on the main flow is included so that flows with strong cross-sectional pressure variations are accurately resolved. Repeated sweeps of the computational domain are employed, with a plane-by-plane update of the three-dimensional pressure field.
