Structure and thermodynamic properties of the crystal‘melt interface of a monoatomic substance

Abstract

The growth of crystals from the melt is the most widely prevalent case of crystal growth in both geology and human activity. However, our knowledge on the crystal–melt interface, where the elementary and sometimes most significant steps of the melt growth take place, is still extremely poor. In our opinion, there are three reasons for this lack of interest in studying the crystal–melt interface:
