Abstract

Research on chemical sensors, i.e., devices which can continuously monitor the concentration of a given “species”, is rapidly growing. There are several reasons for this. The increased use of computers in the process industry has led to the demand for devices which can provide suitable inputs from the process to the computer. Chemical sensors are needed for environmental control and also for simple testing in fields like agriculture. The developments in biotechnology and biomedical engineering have also increased the demands for chemical sensors used in conjunction with biochemical reactions. A special branch of the research on chemical sensors is, therefore, on devices called biosensors.
