ABSTRACT

The chemical composition of the essential oil obtained from the aerial parts of Nepeta discolor Benth. was examined by using GC/MS and GC/FTIR. Out of at least 55 constituents, 40 have been identified. The essential oil from N. discolor has been found to contain sabinene (8.3%), 1,8-cineole (20.0%), sesquiterpene hydrocarbons (17.0%) and oxygenated sesquiterpenes (28.7%). No nepetalactones or iridodial derivatives were found as oil constituents.
