Composition of the Essential Oil of Ocimum tenuiflorum L. Grown in Cuba

Abstract

The volatile oil of the air-dried aerial parts of Ocimum tenuiflorum L. was analyzed by GC and GC/MS. Forty compounds representing 90% of the oil were identified. Eugenol (34.3%), β-elemene (18.0%) and β-caryophyllene (23.1%) were the major constituents.
