Chemical Composition of Essential Oils of Licaria salicifolia (Sw.) Kosterm. of Guadeloupe (F.W.I.)—Existence of Chemotype Species

Abstract

Licaria salicifolia (Sw.) Kosterm., a neotropical Lauraceae, is native of the West Indian area, particularly in Puerto Rico and Guadeloupe. In Guadeloupe, two ecotypes were observed based on a leaf dimorphism. A comparative study of the essential oils of the aerial parts of both ecotypes revealed the existence of a clear chemotype belonging to the same botanical species. Main differences in the ecotypes concerns the ratios of p-cymene (17.4%), 1,8-cineole (12.7%) in one, α- and β-santalenes (20.3% and 7.0%) and trans-α-bergamotene (6.7) in the other.
