Abstract
The leaf and root oils of Valeriana wallichii DC, native to Northwestern Himalaya, were investigated by GC and GC/MS. Twenty and 23 components were identifi ed in the leaf and root oil constituting about 83.2% and 89.3% of the oils, respectively. 3-Methylvaleric acid (26.5%) and maaliol (39.2%) were the major constituents of the leaf oil. The root oil was also rich in maaliol (64.3%) and β-gurjunene (7.2%).
