Comparative Investigations on the Leaf and Root Oils of Valeriana wallichii DC from Northwestern Himalaya

Abstract

The leaf and root oils of Valeriana wallichii DC, native to Northwestern Himalaya, were investigated by GC and GC/MS. Twenty and 23 components were identifi ed in the leaf and root oil constituting about 83.2% and 89.3% of the oils, respectively. 3-Methylvaleric acid (26.5%) and maaliol (39.2%) were the major constituents of the leaf oil. The root oil was also rich in maaliol (64.3%) and β-gurjunene (7.2%).
