ABSTRACT

The chemical composition of the essential oils was obtained by hydrodistillation from the aerial parts of Teucrium luteum subsp. flavovirens collected from two different localities from south-east of Morocco and were analyzed by gas chromatography (GC-FID) and gas chromatography–mass spectroscopy (GC-MS). The essential oils yields were 0.9% and 0.94% (v/w) for sample A and sample B, respectively. Sixty-three and fifty-five compounds were identified in the oil samples which constituted 89.9% and 93.0% of the total oils, respectively. The major constituents in sample A were E-Nerolidol (31.0%), β-Pinene (6.9%), β-Elemol (5.0%) and α-Pinene (4.5%), while those of sample B were β-Elemol (16.4%), α-Pinene (12%), (E)-β-Caryophyllene (7%), α-Humulene (6.4%), β-Pinene (5.7%). To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report on the chemical composition of the essential oil of T. luteum subsp. flavovirens from the South eastern Morocco.
