A very warm welcome to the first issue of 2022 of the Journal of Applied Sport Psychology. This issue marks the handover of the Editor in Chief position. As the Outgoing Editor, I (Stephen) am delighted to be handing over the reins to Chris. Chris comes to the role with a wealth of Editorial Experience in the field of sport psychology and has a long history of high-quality research and practice in applied sport psychology. Chris’ vision for the Journal is very much in line with that of AASP and I am very excited for the future under his stewardship.

As the Incoming Editor, I (Chris) would like to personally thank Stephen for his excellence service to the Journal as Editor over the past 6 years. Building on Stephen’s excellent work I am delighted to announce the Journal will be continuing with a number of initiatives for the upcoming year, including the publication of Special Issues entitled “The Current Status of Racism in Sport Psychology and Liberatory Practices for Dismantling Systemic Racism” Guested Edited by Leeja Carter (Coalition for Food and Health Equity, USA) and Peter Olusga (Sheffield Hallum University, UK), and “Sport Injury Psychology” Guested Edited by Melissa Day (University of Chichester, UK) and Ross Wadey (St Mary’s University, UK). The Journal will also continue to publish invited articles from eminent and upcoming scholars focusing on prominent and emergent areas in the field of applied sport and exercise psychology, including: the psychology of rest in athletes, the psychological aspects of sport-related concussion, elite athlete mental health treatment with psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy, and positive youth development and life skills in sport through a social justice lens.

The Editorial Board is also welcoming new members for 2022 including Jana Fogaça (California State University, Long Beach, USA), Alessandro Quartiroli (University of Wisconsin–La Crosse, USA), and Brendan Cropley (University of South Wales, UK). A big welcome also to our new Editorial Board members who have joined in the past 12 months including Zenzi Huysmans (West Virginia University, USA), Leeja Carter (Coalition for Food and Health Equity, USA), Sae-Mi Lee (California State University, Los Angeles, USA), Moé Machida-Kosuga (Osaka University of Health and Sport Sciences, Japan) and Takahiro Sato (Western New Mexico University, USA). Lastly, a big thank you to Deborah Kendzierski (Villanova University, USA) for her long-standing service to the Journal and we wish her well as she steps down from the Board.

Both myself and Stephen would personally like to thank all the existing Editorial Board members for their hard work and contribution to the Journal over the past 12 months and to those individuals who have undertaken reviewing duties for the Journal in this time, particularly given the global constraints on academic time and work productivity. Your hard work continues to ensure that the Journal is able to publish high quality work that significantly advances thought, theory, and research on applied aspects of sport and exercise psychology. If any readers are interested in undertaking reviews for the Journal—something we would heartily encourage given the enriching nature for one’s academic and professional development—then please get in touch and we can add you to the Journal’s reviewer database. Lastly, a big thank you to the submitting authors, ultimately the Journal is only as good as the content that is published and there has been some truly excellent work recently published in JASP.

We hope you enjoy the latest issue of the Journal. If you are undertaking high quality applied or professional practice research within our field, then the Journal offers a very receptive audience for the dissemination of your work and we welcome your submissions.
