Bernadette Devlin's maiden speech: A rhetoric of sacrifice

Abstract

In the riotous spring of 1969, Bernadette Devlin, the young newly elected M.P. from Ulster, delivered her maiden speech in Parliament. This study examines that speech and its relationship to problems in northern Ireland, both past and present.
