Pages 347-361 | Published online: 01 Apr 2009

Abstract

This paper examines the ethical quality of the persuasive strategies of Glenn W. Turner of Turner Enterprises. Based on the premise that ethical persuasion is characterized by adherence to social utility principles, the study examines two aspects of Turner's practices: the nature of the course of action he advises, and the means of peruasion he employs to gain acceptance of the action. The paper concludes that his persuasion is unethical because it violates social utility principles in both aspects.
