Trend Becomes Tradition: The Educational Challenges of New Communication Technologies

Abstract

This article is based on the president's speech given at the business meeting of the 82nd Annual Convention of the Southern States Communication Association, San Antonio, Texas, April 13, 2012. The address examines the changing nature of education in the 21st century. Advances in technology and the Internet have made online education a real and viable alternative to traditional classroom education. The speech addresses the advantages and disadvantages of online education for both students and faculty.
