Abstract
Besides the investigation of the emission band, accurate measurements of both lifetime and quantum yield were performed concerning Cu+ and Ag+ luminescence in alkali halides. The validity of the Pedrini model for the decay process was verified and was then extended to include the off-centre configuration; evidence of non-radiative processes (in NaCl: Ag+) as well as of a switching for on and off-centre configurations in NaCl: Cu+ was ascertained. The first data concerning the emission of Au+ in KCl were obtained.
