&
Pages 1-5 | Published online: 17 Dec 2008

A new trace fossil assigned to insect activity in wood is described from the Jurassic Petrified Forest of Jaramillo in Santa Cruz Province (Argentina). Dekosichnus meniscatus n. ichnogen. n. ichnosp. is the second known Jurassic trace occurring in permineralized wood. The boring system is composed of longitudinal tunnels connected by tangential tunnels. The system is connected to the exterior by radial borings of different sizes. Some tunnels contain frass packed in backfill menisci, which is for the first time recorded from the Jurassic.
