Abstract

Alkaline earth metal salts of hexacoordinate dianionic silicates [(C₆H₄O₂)₂Si(NCS)₂Si(NCS)₂]^2- M²⁺ [where M = Ca (1), Sr (2), Ba (3)] are prepared from the reaction of alkaline earth metal thiocyanates suspended in CH₃CN, diethoxy diisothiocyanatosilane and benzene-1,2-diol under very mild conditions. The compounds are charcterised by elemental analyses, IR, multinuclear (¹H, ¹³C, ²⁹Si) NMR and FAB mass spectroscopy.
