Abstract
Alkaline earth metal salts of hexacoordinate dianionic silicates [(C6H4O2)2Si(NCS)2Si(NCS)2]2- M2+ [where M = Ca (1), Sr (2), Ba (3)] are prepared from the reaction of alkaline earth metal thiocyanates suspended in CH3CN, diethoxy diisothiocyanatosilane and benzene-1,2-diol under very mild conditions. The compounds are charcterised by elemental analyses, IR, multinuclear (1H, 13C, 29Si) NMR and FAB mass spectroscopy.
