Abstract

Stable 1,3-diphosphacyclobutane-2,4-diyls carrying a substituent such as benzyl moiety react with hydride to cause reductive P–C bond cleavage leading to the cyclic phosphaallyl anion, which is the synthetic intermediate of biradicals.
