Evaluation of the Biochemical Effects of Silyl-Phosphaalkenes on Oxidative and Nitrosative Stress Pathways Involving Metallocenters

GRAPHICAL ABSTRACT

Abstract

A series of tests is proposed for the evaluation of the effect of experimental drugs on oxidative and nitrosative stress pathways involving metallocenters, with silyl-substituted phospha-alkenes as test cases. Physiologically and pathologically relevant parameters of hemoglobin, myoglobin, red blood cells, and cytochrome c are explored, such as autooxidation oxygen affinity, lipid peroxidation, nitrite-induced oxidation, and enzyme-type turnover. Prooxidant and nitrosative-stress-related reactivities appear to some extent enhanced by the compounds examined here.
