Abstract

On the basis of phosphorus chemistry, we have proposed simple and flexible access to synthetic phospholipids in which a phosphorus functional group assumes the link between two lipid chains and a cationic polar head. These cationic lipids were studied as vectors for nucleic acids delivery. Beside their capacity to carry plasma DNA (pDNA) into cells, some of these amphiphilic compounds also exhibite potent antibacterial action toward strains such as Staphylococcus aureus.
