ABSTRACT
A simple and mild synthesis of selenotheophyllines is described based on the reaction of 7-alkyl-8-chlorotheophylline with sodium hydrogenselenide followed by reactions with halocompounds such as chloroacetonitrile, ethyl chloroacetate, chloroacetamide, and ethyl chloroformate. Elemental analysis, infrared, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and mass spectral data confirmed the structure of the newly synthesized compounds.
