It is my great pleasure to present this fine collection of contributed manuscripts for a special issue dedicated to the memory of Prof. Dr. Reinhard Schmutzler who served as a distinguished member of the Editorial Board for Phosphorus, Sulfur, and Silicon and the Related Elements. These papers, submitted by his chemistry colleagues from around the world, and current Editorial Board Members reflect a rich history and legacy that Professor Schmutzler has left on his field of phosphorus and fluorine chemistry.
This special issue would not have been possible without the excellent and devoted work of Professor Dr. Gerhard Hägele (Editorial Board Member, University of Düsseldorf) who introduced the idea to me, and has enthusiastically served as the guest editor, working hard to ensure that the submissions were collected in a timely manner.
I am also thankful for the support of European Editor, Prof. Dr. Konstantin Karaghiosoff, in the management of this special issue.
Most of all, I am delighted that so many eminent colleagues have taken time to provide peer-reviewed papers that have formed an assembly of chemical knowledge dedicated to the memory of Reinhard Schmutzler. Thank you.
With my best wishes,
