Abstract

The reaction of thiophene-2-carbonyl isothiocyanate with phenylhydrazine gave 1-phenyl-5-(thien-2-yl)-1,2,4-triazole-3-thiol which was transformed by follow-up reactions into derivatives substituted in the 3-position by 1,2,4-oxadiazole and 1,2,4-thiadiazole moieties via thioethers linkages. The antitumor activity of the products against two human tumor cell lines, namely hepatocellular carcinoma HePG-2 and mammary gland breast cancer MCF-7 as well as the antimicrobial activity of some of these compounds was evaluated.
