Abstract

Thionitrates (RSNO2) have been proposed as key intermediates in the biotransformation of organic nitrates that have been used as nitric oxide prodrugs. However, thionitrates are usually very labile and model studies on the chemical processes involving thionitrates have been difficult. In this paper, model studies of biologically relevant chemical processes involving thionitrates by taking advantage of a nano-sized molecular cavity are summarized.
