Abstract

In the system Ca3(PO4)2·CaSO4, the series of single phase Ca21−x(PO4)14−2x(SO4)2x (O ≤ x ≤ 1) was prepared. These solid solutions are isostructural with β anhydrous tricalcium orthophosphate. The upper limit of the SO4 2- solubility in β-tricalcium orthophosphate lattice matches a molar ratio SO4 2-(PO4 3- + SO4 2-) = 0,1428 (i.e. x = 1). This limit compound corresponds to the formula Ca20(PO4)12(SO4)2: it is a calcium phosphosulfate which has been characterized by its infrared spectra (1205 and 1172 cm−1), its crystallographic unit cell parameters (a H = 10,466(2) Å, c H = 37,45(1) Å) and its specific weight (2,985(5) g cm−3).
