Abstract

The synthesis and characterization of 1,3-dichalcogena-[3]ferrocenophanes are described in which the central position of the triatomic bridge may be occupied by various main group and transition metal elements. Trinuclear [3Jferroceno-phanes Fe{(C5H4E)Y[(EC5H4),FeI}, (Y = P, As, Sb) were obtained from the reactions of 1,1′-bis(trimethylstannyl-chalcogenato)-ferrocenes, Fe(C5H4E-SnMe3)2 (E = S, Se, Te), with the trichlorides PCl3, AsC13 and SbCl3, respectively. Heterobimetallic complexes [Fe(C5H4E)2]M(L)(η5-C5MeS) (M(L) = Rh(PMe,), Ir(PMe3), Ir(PPhl) and Ir(CNtBu)) were prepared by reacting dilithium 1,1′-ferrocene-dichalcogenates Fe(C5H4ELi), (E = S, Se, Te) with η5-pentamethylcyclopentadienyl half sandwich compounds (ηs-C5Me5)M(L)Cl2. X-Ray data confirm the absence of bonding interactions between the two metals, Fe and M.
