Abstract
The title compound (MeSO2)2N‒SO2‒NCO (1) is obtained from ClSO2NCO and AgN(SO2Me)2 in benzene. It is instantaneously and completely hydrolyzed by excess water to form CO2, NH4 +, SO4 2- and (MeSO2)2N−. The addition of alcohols to the isocyanate function of 1 leads to N-substituted urethanes (MeSO2)2‒NSO2‒NH‒C(O)OR with R = Me, Et or iPr. 1 crystallizes in the triclinic space group P1 with a = 532,4(3), b = 747,8(5), c = 1259,6(6) pm, α = 79,90(5), β = 86,30(5), γ = 77,49(5)°, V = 0,4818(3) nm3 (at -95°C), Z = 2. The bonding parameters and the conformational properties of the molecule are discussed and compared with those of the known electron-diffraction structure of Cl‒SO2‒NCO in the vapour phase.
