Abstract

A facile method for the synthesis of phosphinic aminocarboxylic acids containing a lypophilic β-phenylethyl radical at the phosphorus atom has been suggested. Bis(trimethylsilyl)hypophosphite, prepared from ammonium hypophosphite, is added to styrene, the phosphonite formed is further alkylated by the corresponding diethyl ω,-bromoalkylacetoamidomalonate. Subsequent hydrolysis of β-phenylethylphosphinylalkylacetoamidomalonates leads to the desired aminoacids.
