Abstract
Syntheses and characterization of a series of terminally functionalized n-alkanethiols with the general formula X-(CH2)n-SH are reported, where X─OH, NO2, CO2H, CO2Me, CO2Et, p-NO2-Ph, p-NH2-Ph, and n has a value between 5 and 12. These compounds are prepared for the synthesis of self-assembled monolayers on gold surfaces, which provides a simple approach to chemically modified surfaces with controlled interfacial structures.
