Self-Assembly of Quaternary (LIOSN) Clusters

Abstract

The reaction of RNSO with LiNH^tBu produces the hexamers {Li₂[SO(N^tBu)(NR)]}₆. These thirty-six atom (Li₁₂S₆O₆N₁₂) clusters adopt novel structural arrangements derived from (a) the aggregation of three Li₄S₂O₂N₄ hexagonal prisms via their Li₂O₂ faces (R = ^tBu) or (b) the dimerization of two Li₆S₃O₃N₆ eighteen atom cages via their Li₃O₃ faces (R = SiMe₃).
