Abstract
Samples alloyed from zero up to 20 Nb at.% were produced by arc casting. Wear resistance is evaluated under dry sliding wear test conditions at different loads. Samples with a higher Nb at.% worn on an AISI 9840 steel disk had better resistance in comparison with samples without Nb reaching values up to 30%. This effect is explained considering the differences in oxidation between the substrate and the sample surfaces obtained by SEM analysis which explains the resistance improvement for the alloys with the Nb solid solution additions.
