Abstract

Nanoscale ferroelectric ceramics have typical nonlinear characteristics that make it suitable for device applications. A clear understanding and analysis of nonlinearity is therefore of prime importance. Finite element model approach was used to investigate, analyze, and predict nonlinearity in Gd doped PZT (PGZT) prepared by mechanical alloying (high-energy ball milling technique). The nanoindentation tests have been carried out to study the nonlinear properties of green compact nanoceramic, which has cubic phase PGZT. The predictions of the finite element modeling (FEM) appear to be in excellent agreement with the experimental data thereby confirming the accuracy level of the FEM method of analysis.
