Abstract
Multiple ceramic particle reinforced iron matrix coatings were produced by laser beam melting mixture of B4C, TiO2, Al, and Fe-based self-melting powders. The results showed that the coating were mainly composed of α-Fe, TiB2, and TiC. TiB2 grains showed rectangle structures with deep grey, and that TiC grains exhibited near-cubic morphologies with light grey in the coating. The amount, type, and size of the reinforcements were influenced by the content of B4C, TiO2, and Al. Compared to the substrate, wear resistance of the composite coatings were significantly improved. Furthermore, the coatings possessed more effective protection for scratching and plastic deformation.
