Abstract

It is sometimes necessary to design final two roll grooves (separating roll groove and oval roll groove) to produce rebar which are not specified by American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) standards. This study presents process that gives rise to equations which determine quickly the design parameters of the two roll grooves. We develop the equations by performing finite element simulations and examining variations in the design parameters dependent on rebar size. We conduct a laboratory rebar rolling experiment at high temperature (approximately 1000°C) to confirm the usefulness of the proposed equations. Results reveal that the differences between the predictions and the measurements are in the range of − 1.9%to 6.9%. Therefore, with the proposed equations, we may reduce cost and time to verify the design of the separating roll groove and oval roll groove before the rebar of nonstandard size are mass-produced.
