Abstract
During the field work placement process, the Field Director deals with a variety of professional issues. Among these is the professional tradition of confidentiality. A nationwide study was undertaken to gather data about how BSW Field Work Directors actually handled personal information on students during the field work placement process. The results reveal a continuum of practices: The majority of directors have no definite policy; rather, they treat each situation individually, attempting to balance the rights of the students, the liabilities of the agencies and responsibilities to the clients.
