Abstract
This article reports on seven years’ worth of decisions made by the Council on Social Work Education’s Commission on Accreditation, the only such accrediting authority in the United States. Decisions on initial accreditation and reaffirmation of accredited status for baccalaureate and master’s degree social work programs from 1985–92 were analyzed for any significant or recognizable patterns. Results indicate that BSW programs were overall more successful than MSW programs at achieving accredited status. All programs nonetheless demonstrated a high rate of success in meeting accreditation standards.
