Pages 247-260 | Accepted 01 Jun 1997, Published online: 20 Mar 2014

Abstract

This article discusses the evolution of service delivery for people with developmental disabilities from the medical model to the developmental model to the current support model. Today's service delivery paradigm has changed the conceptualization of consumers, service intent, and the role of professionals. In this context, the author examines the role of social work practice, education, and research in service provision for people with developmental disabilities.
