Psychometric Properties of the Persian Version of Social Media Use Integration Scale (SMUIS)

&

ABSTRACT

In recent years, the use of social media has dramatically increased among Iranian. However, no measure has yet been validated to examine the nature of social media use and its potential implications in Iran. One of the best measures for assessing social media use is the Social Media Use Integration Scale (SMUIS). The authors advised further research to confirm the measure’s psychometrics with various samples and social media other than Facebook. This study aimed to examine the factor structure, internal consistency, and convergent validity of the Persian SMUIS with a sample of 376 Iranian Instagram users (M age: 31.62, SD: 9.73, 77.4% women). Confirmatory factor analysis supported a modified two-factor model of SMUIS. The SMUIS subscales demonstrated acceptable internal consistency and were associated with external correlates (e.g., neglecting work), supporting the convergent validity of SMUIS scores. Overall, our findings indicated that Persian SMUIS enjoys sound psychometric properties.
