Gene expression and immune response of pacific white shrimp given Bacillus NP5 probiotic and honey prebiotic and Vibrio parahaemolyticus infection

ABSTRACT

The present study aimed to evaluate the growth performance, immune response, and immunity-related genes in white shrimp given the Bacillus sp. (NP5) probiotic and honey prebiotic and V. parahaemolyticus infection. This study consisted of five treatments: NP5, honey, synbiotic (honey and NP5), positive control (PC), and negative control (NC), respectively. The results of this study demonstrated that the administration of the NP5, honey, and synbiotic could improve the growth performance, immune response, and expression of immunity-related genes with the best results in the synbiotic treatment, also better than those in treatment PC, both after the treatments and after the challenge test. The survival rate post-challenge test revealed that the results for treatment with NP5, honey, and synbiotic were higher (73.3–86.7%) than that of treatment PC (50.0%). In conclusion, the administration of NP5, honey, and synbiotic could improve the growth performance and immunity of white shrimp against V. parahaemolyticus infection.
