Rethinking A Lot: The Design and Culture of Parking

by ERAN BEN-JOSEPH. MIT Press, 2012, 184 pages, 77 color illustrations, 37 black and white illustrations, $24.95 (cloth)

Pages 147-149 | Published online: 05 Mar 2013

Notes

1. Anastasia Loukaitou-Sideris and Renia Ehrenfeucht cover these issues in the terrain between parking and driving, the sidewalk. See their book Sidewalks: Conflict and Negotiation over Public Space (Cambridge: MIT Press, 2009). Ben-Joseph's most powerful nod towards a version of positive negotiation is an image from Guinea, where access to electricity is scarce, showing students studying in one of the few consistently reliable sources of light, the airport parking lot.
