Abstract
Last year was a busy and productive one for the Journal, as we continued to make improvements to our systems for managing the approximately 250 manuscripts submitted for review. These improvements have allowed us to increase the size of an average issue from 128 to 160 pages as of January 2000. The average time between submission and publication has been shortened as a result. In addition to expanding regular issues, we published three oversized (more than 200 pages) issues on critical environmental topics. The July and August special issues on particulate matter and health provided important and timely scientific information that will be included in the current review of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's National Ambient Air Quality Standard for Particulate Matter.
