Transana Video Analysis Software as a Tool for Consultation: Applications to Improving PTA Meeting Leadership

Pages 300-313 | Received 14 Apr 2011, Published online: 31 Oct 2012

Abstract

The chief aim of this article is to illustrate the potential of using Transana, a qualitative video analysis tool, for effective and efficient school-based consultation. In this illustrative study, the Transana program facilitated analysis of excerpts of video from a representative sample of Parent Teacher Association (PTA) meetings over the course of 1 year. The results of the study gave insight into the impact of various combinations of verbal and nonverbal behaviors of the PTA leader on the reactions of PTA meeting participants. The methods and results from this study illuminate application of Transana to consultation in schools and a variety of other settings and situations, including research and training.
