Abstract
In my response to discussants I refer to some of the many interesting points raised by them. I then focus and discuss the more critical ones, from a theoretical point of view and taking into account contextual factors related to the practice of Relational Psychoanalysis in Chile. From my point of view and experience, for example, psychiatric consultation and eventual medication during analysis may be considered in a supplementary logic rather than a dichotomous one. I also address other issues related to active listening and involvement, differentiating it from passivity and submissiveness. Discussants seem to agree around the main contributing factors in the patient’s growth.
Notes
1 An interesting example can be found in a recent publication by Muriel Dimen (Citation2014).
2 “I think the relationship between the medical model and the psychological model not as part of a dichotomous logic but rather as part of a supplementary logic in which “each dimension is always an appeal for supplementation addressed to the other, just as each dimension looks to the other to make up for its weaknesses or to help control its excesses” (Coelho & Figueiredo, Citation2003).
