ABSTRACT
Plant parts of Hildegardia barteri were hydro-distilled using Clevenger-type apparatus and the oils obtained were subjected to gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis. A total of 49, 46, and 39 compounds accounting for 97.3%, 98.5%, and 99.2% chemical composition were identified in the leaf, stem bark, and root bark of the plant, respectively. The principal component of all the volatile oils was an isoprenoid ketone, 6,10,14-trimethylpentadecan-2-one (hexahydrofarnesyl acetone). The percentage compositions of hexahydrofarnesyl acetone were 38.2 (leaf), 25.4 (stem bark), and 20.2 (root bark). Other compounds common to all the oils included limonene, o-ethyl toluene, methyl xylene, cymene, β-calarene, 9-octadecenamide, and some hydrocarbons. Unidentified compounds accounted for 3.0%, 2.3%, and 0.8% in leaf, stem, and root bark, respectively.
