Lockeian influences in the evolution of rhetorical theory

Abstract

Within his philosophical‐psychological system Locke placed, endorsed, and expanded several “modern” developments in rhetoric. Less obvious, but perhaps of greater significance to the current study of rhetoric and communication is Locke's advancement of a mechanistic‐scientific paradigm for humane studies.
