Criminal justice/law enforcement students are exposed to distorted images of the criminal justice system created by the media. One method for dispelling myths students may have of the system is a mentorship program. This paper describes the process for developing and implementing a mentorship program. Our experience coordinating this program for five years suggests four key elements for creating a successful program: a workshop at the start of the program, commitment that builds over the year, meaningful communication, and adequate contact.
