Investigating the information superhighway: Global views, local perspectives

Abstract

This article sets forth the unique climate and operational characteristics of the Internet, and reflects on the special challenges confronting law enforcement. It identifies respective roles and relationships, and presents an overview of the changes needed to augment officer training, including development of sources in cyberspace. The article specifies the threats to investigative efforts posed by criminal enterprises, and discusses methods of establishing and maintaining an enforcement presence on the Information Superhighway.
