QUADRATIC CONNECTIONS

Pages 275-278 | Published online: 13 Aug 2007

ABSTRACT

It is essential for students to understand concepts and to make connections that strengthen their ability and knowledge. This paper illustrates an activity that covers some of the concepts of quadratics (parabolas), their roots (real or complex), solutions to quadratics (real or complex), graphs, standard form, and vertex (max or min for vertical quadratics). This activity can be done with or without technology although technology allows greater time for reflection about the concepts and connections discovered. Through this activity students discover the connections while re-enforcing the concepts. We look at numerical, graphical, and analytical results.
