Judith Siegel, PhD, LCSW is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Family Social Work and a faculty member of the Silver School of Social Work at NYU. She also co-directs the post-master’s certificate program in Child and Family Therapy at the Silver School of Social Work, as well as the online Certificate Program in Expanded Diagnosis and Assessment.
Ann Hartman, DSW, has been a leading practitioner, scholar, and educator for more than 40 years. She began her career in child welfare and moved to the mental health field, and family agency work after receiving her MSW from Smith College. She received her DSW from Columbia University. Hartman was dean and professor at the Smith School for Social Work, 1986 to 1994. She was also editor of the journal Social Work for 5 years in the 1990s, and secretary of the National Association of Social Workers. Ann Hartman received the Significant Lifetime Achievement Award from the Council on Social Work Education in 1994. Other awards include Case Western University’s Herman Stein Distinguished Social Work Educator Award; the Greatest Contribution to Social Work Education Award from the Massachusetts Chapter of the NASW; and the Distinguished American Social Worker Award from the University of Cincinnati.
Hartman’s research focuses on families and family-center practice, child welfare, education in child welfare, adoption, and the history of social-work theory and ideology. She is the author or editor of five books, including Family Centered Social Work Practice, which is a standard text on family practice for social-work educators.
